The Route
Distance: ~600 km
Duration: 4–7 days
Chiang Mai
Thailand’s northern capital is rich with culture, temples, and culinary delights. A vibrant city surrounded by mountains, it’s the ideal place to launch the loop — or relax afterward with a bowl of khao soi.
Pai
A laid-back riverside town popular with backpackers. Surrounded by hot springs, bamboo bridges, and waterfalls, Pai is a haven for relaxation, live music, and peaceful countryside exploration.
Soppong (Pang Mapha)
A lesser-known stop with limestone caves and quiet forest trails. Visit the enormous Tham Lod Cave on a bamboo raft, or explore local hill tribe villages nestled in the mountains.

Mae Hong Son
A misty mountain town with strong Burmese influence. Visit serene temples perched on lakes, catch sunrise from mountaintops, and experience a tranquil, cultural side of Thailand far from the crowds.
Doi Inthanon
Thailand’s highest peak, part of a beautiful national park with waterfalls, cloud forests, and royal pagodas. Cooler temperatures and panoramic views make it a rewarding finish to the loop.
